Manifesto of the Individual
Part of the graduation project (ArtEZ, Arnhem, NL)Year:
The idea of the project embraced after my great interest into Lithuanian literary movement of the 1920s "The Four Winds", which brought avant-garde to Lithuanian culture.
I was curious to the design tools which would evoke awareness of the viewer, discussion and maybe a new movement.
The Graduation project consists of 3 parts: 'The Manifesto of the Individual', 4 little books and series of posters.
1) Within 'The Manifesto of the Individual' I introduce the viewer with "The Four Winds"
2) 4 books questions responsibility of the individual, confronts, evokes different emotions as self-defense, feeling accused etc.
3) Series of the posters is a free platform – puzzle, mind game. Each poster is a template where any relevant problematic could be applied on while making it a start of discussion. Even though the posters are my reflection on (then) current problematics (such as shootings in America's schools, rapes, influence of corporations and politicians), each poster is a template for any other problematic becoming a platform of discussion. Both groups of sentences on the posters and in the posters juxtapose / contradict with each other creating different meanings which encourages the viewer to find his own truth.
